I was always the guy people came to tell their stories to; even as a child, adults would share adult problems with me. I thought everyone one did this, and when it became clear they didn't, I decided to go back to school and get trained to understand more deeply and technically this calling. I've never looked back.

I supervise because I learned that there is only so much one can learn in grad school. Some schools are focused on techniques, others the connection and feeling, but both are needed, and there is only so much any school can teach you. But, the learning begins anew and is more serious the moment that first client comes in the door. There are also things that are often hard to learn without experience and the wisdom with age. I gain both every day and enjoy sharing with new therapists what I have to help them become the therapists they wish to be.

I hope that new professionals feel free to grow and change as they become therapists and seek others that can help them find their ways to be the best they can be, and that they share what they have learned to those that follow after them.

Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, has been quoted as saying, "Change is the only constant in life." I have changed it to, "There is only one constant in the universe, change, and humanity spends much of its time resisting it."
