Tawanna Lewis, CMFT, LPC, CCTP, CPCS
I actually didn't choose my career as a professional counselor; however, when I was placed in the lives of teenagers right after I graduated from undergraduate school, I felt this was the beginning of a new life for me to be in the space of others that need support through the most difficult challenges in their lives.
I always thought about when I was just starting out as a therapist and needed "direction" and felt lost. I never wanted anyone to experience this on their journey in becoming a licensed therapist/counselor. I feel the challenge in both ways is always inviting; at the same time, supervisees keeping me on my toes at all times is a great experience.
I hope that new professionals challenge themselves to always learn and not be afraid to grow, find those specialities that will catch their interests, and become some of the most beneficial professionals in the field of mental health.
